- Package weighs 4+ lbs AND fits a flat rate box

- Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes work best when your package is heavy relative to its size AND you're shipping long distances. The break-even against Ground Advantage for the Medium Flat Rate Box ($16.10 commercial) is roughly 3–4 lbs at Zone 7. Under that weight or for short-zone shipments, Ground Advantage is almost always cheaper. Flat Rate is also useful when you need the 1–3 day delivery window or want to use free USPS packaging.
